Following the release of his critically acclaimed fifth album, 'All Change', and a sold out show at The Lexington, Tom Williams has announced a seven date UK tour and an appearance at On Blackheath Festival, on Saturday 9th September, and a headline show at Bush Hall.
‘All Change’ is a ten track collection of songs written in practice rooms across Kent, in breaks from teaching guitar and song writing to school children. The record was later refined at the music department of Leeds Beckett University, where Williams accepted a week-long artists residency on the condition that they would provide him with a band, who turned out to be music tech students. The results were sent to Ian Grimble (The Fall, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Mumford & Sons) for mixing and ‘All Change’ came into being.
As a body of work, the album offers a moving and honest commentary on the mindset of a musician who was prepared to hang up his guitar and take on life’s other challenges. It moves from the impassioned, angry response to the rise of populist right wing politics of first single ‘Everyone Needs A Home’ to the exquisite tenderness of ‘There She Goes Again’ (a love song to Williams’ illustrator wife). This is the sound of a musician finally relaxing into his own creative process.
“Williams swings from Damien Rice acoustica ….to a whorl of psychedelic Radiohead …while nailing Oasis’s knack for pop songwriting”. – The Guardian “the album of his career” – The Telegraph “The best record of this year.” - Huey Morgan, 6Music “Catchy and intelligent pop composition at its very best.” - Sunday Express “A blistering rock return.” - Clash “Brilliant.” - The Line of Best Fit
