Iamthemorning is a chamber progressive band founded in St. Petersburg, Russia in 2010. With songwriting rich with metaphorical layers: referencing Shakespearean poetry, images and the visual aesthetics of Pre-Raphaelites, the band at the same time adopts nearly every significant musical achievement of a progressive rock genre, associated with the likes of early Porcupine Tree, Philip Glass and Kate Bush, musically and lyrically.
The core members are classically trained pianist Gleb Kolyadin and vocalist Marjana Semkina, though for most live performances and recordings the band uses, in various combinations, guitar, bass, drums, string quartet, and harp.
New album 'Lighthouse' is the follow up to the 2014 album 'Belighted' and features guests Gavin Harrison (Porcupine Tree, King Crimson), Colin Edwin (Porcupine Tree) & Mariusz Duda (Riverside, Lunatic Soul). Mixed By Marcel Van Limbeek (Tori Amos).
'Lighthouse' is a rich and eclectic album, with echoes of classical music, the Canterbury scene, northern folk, jazz and electronic sounds. Lyrically, the works and lives of Virginia Woolf and Sylvia Plath inspire the album. Recorded across London, Moscow & St Petersburg, the core instrument of the band, the grand piano, was recorded in Mosfilm Studios Moscow, the largest and oldest studios in Russia. Founded in 1920, Mosfilm is renowned for recording orchestras for soundtracks for the most famous Soviet-era films, including works by Tarkovsky and Eisenstein.
'Lighthouse' won the ALBUM OF THE YEAR award at the prestigious Prog Awards ceremony last september in London, and PROG readers recently voted Marjana 'Female vocalist of 2016' and 'Woman of the Year'.
